My dog Patch has never been to a groomer before but he's had some skin issues and I had heard about Vanessa and wanted to work with her as he can be a bit nervous. Vanessa did a brilliant job of making him feel so settled and at home with a meet a treat, she helped me understand how to better care for his skin and it was such a lovely experience for him. He can't wait to go back!

Yes—you are welcome to stay if it helps reassure your dog or yourself. Sometimes having a familiar face nearby can be a big comfort, and there are moments where an extra pair of hands can be genuinely helpful.
However, it is important that your dog is able to build trust and a working relationship with me. If your presence becomes a distraction, or if your dog is focused solely on you instead of interacting with the grooming process, I may ask that you step out of sight or leave the salon. This isn’t a reflection on you or your dog—it simply allows me to form a bond with them and ensure their experience is positive, safe, and stress-free.
The goal is always what is best for your dog’s welfare and emotional confidence.
Yes — you’re very welcome here. Many of the dogs I work with have previously found grooming overwhelming, have been unable to tolerate certain parts of the process, or have been turned away by other groomers due to anxiety, reactivity, medical needs, or grooming intolerance.
As a behaviour-led grooming specialist, my focus is on understanding why your dog is struggling and working at a pace that feels safe for them. We begin with a Meet & Treat session to gently introduce the salon, build trust, and explore what support your dog needs — without pressure or expectations.
My goal isn’t just to complete a groom — it’s to help your dog feel heard, understood, and more comfortable with the process over time. Every dog deserves compassion, patience, and the chance to try again in the right environment.
Yes — I regularly work with senior dogs, those with mobility challenges, medical conditions, and dogs who may require a slower, more considered approach. As a behaviour-focused grooming specialist, I tailor each session to your dog’s comfort, emotional needs, and physical capability, adjusting handling, time, breaks, and positioning to ensure their wellbeing and dignity are prioritised.
For some dogs, especially those who tire easily or find the grooming process overwhelming, I can offer split grooms, completing the groom over a series of shorter, manageable sessions. This can be discussed at your Meet & Treat appointment, where we’ll explore what feels most supportive for your dog.
If helpful, I’m also happy to collaborate with your vet, physio, or other professionals involved in your dog’s care to make grooming as safe and stress-free as possible.
Yes—many of the dogs I support have a history of being sedated or struggling to tolerate grooming in the past. My approach is behaviour-led, meaning we work at your dog’s pace, prioritising emotional safety and consent-based handling.
Sedation is sometimes used when there are no alternatives, but it can mask fear rather than resolve it. Through gentle introduction, positive reinforcement, and tailored desensitisation, we can often make genuine progress toward a more relaxed grooming experience over time.
We’ll begin with a Meet & Treat session to assess what your dog finds challenging and create a plan that feels manageable and respectful for them.
